Research Opportunities
Active collaborations exist between Program investigators and UIC investigators from several departments at both the College and Medical Center Campuses including Physiology & Biophysics, Medicine, Bioengineering. Postdoctoral and predoctoral positions are currently available to work closely with the faculty of the Program in Integrative Cardiac Metabolism.
Graduate Studies: Students interested in advanced degrees (Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D.) are able to pursue graduate studies in the Program in Integrative Cardiac Metabolism. Motivated students that wish to take advantage of the educational and technological resources of the Program for thesis work, will generally be recruited through the Department of Physiology & Biophysics Graduate Education Program, the UIC Graduate Education in Medical Sciences (GEMS) Program. Student applying to the College of Medicine who interested in performing thesis work toward the M.D./Ph.D. degree will enter through the Medical Scientist Training Program (MTSP).
Postdoctoral Research: Postgraduate fellowships are currently available for individuals holding M.D. or Ph.D. degrees. Positions are available on two NIH sponsored training grants through the Center for Cardiovascular Research (CCVR).
Strong candidates for postdoctoral fellowships will have general interest in cardiovascular science, with specific interests in metabolism and heart disease, and technical interest or experience with immunoassay, HPLC, gene transfer, or NMR spectroscopy / imaging, along with isolated heart or cardiomyocyte preparations.
Cardiology Fellowship Program: the Program provides opportunities for basic cardiology research through the Cardiology Fellowship Program.
Interested candidates for training positions should contact the Program office.
