Facilities

The Program houses laboratory bench space for analytical biochemistry and protein analysis, tissue culture facilities, surgical rooms, dedicated NMR and LC/MS laboratories, and data processes centers.

A key component of the laboratory resources of the Program in Integrative Cardiac Metabolism is a 3,000 sq. ft. NMR facility with an outlay specifically designed for physiological studies of the heart. The NMR facility houses 2 state-of-the-art, vertical bore NMR spectrometer/imaging systems for multinuclear studies of cardiac metabolism: a 400 MHz (9.4 T) actively shielded wide-bore ( 89 mm ) magnet and a 600 MHz (14.1 T) actively shielded wide bore ( 89 mm ) magnet with microimaging accessories. Both magnets are interfaced to Avance consoles (Bruker Instruments Inc.). A dedicated QQQ Liquid Chromagraphy / Mass Spectrometry system enables analysis of both lipid intermediate content and stable isotope enrichment of cardiac lipid.
