Research Initiative

The Program in Integrative Cardiac Metabolism (PICM) is a section of the Center for Cardiovascular Research (CCVR) at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine with affiliations within the Departments of Physiology and Biophysics and the Section of Cardiology, Department of Medicine.

This multidisciplinary Program, under the direction for E. Douglas Lewandowski, Ph.D., is dedicated to the study of cardiovascular disease at the level of integration between gene expression of metabolic enzymes and the metabolic basis of cardiac dysfunction. In addition to traditional molecular, biochemical, and physiological experimentation, the Program also utilizes state-of-the-art NMR spectroscopy and imaging of the heart.
